Cool Wassell / Hap Jones Peanut Tank & Mount

I'm trying to figure out if this tank strip hovers above the tank like shown or if the peanut gets pushed up so its flush with the strip. Either way, this is a pretty unique idea! (from and early 70s Chopper related Magazine)
