1940's 1947 Seibert Buick, Inc. Original GMC Truck Bed Signs & Photographs Columbia, MO (105 S. 5TH PHONE 3348)
Recently found at a Pasadena, CA estate, are two extremely RARE and HISTORICAL 1940's Seibert Buick, Inc. Authorized Buick - GMC Sales * Service truck bed signs for the dealership at 105 S. 5th St., Columbia, MO. The signs date back to around February 1947 when Seibert Buick, Inc. began. The dealership was family owned and operated, run by brothers Fred E. Seibert (President) and George A. Seibert (Vice President), Fred's wife Gladys M. Seibert (Secretary), and George's wife Essie M. Seibert (Treasurer). The signs were likely used up until January 1952 when the dealership closed, later reopening as Nicholls Buick in July 1952. Along with the signs are four original black & white photographs showing the signs in use on a 1941, 1942, or 1946 era GMC pick up truck (a 1942 Buick can be seen in front of the shop as well) and a packet of information on the dealership as sourced from The State Historical Society of Missouri and the Boone County History and Culture Museum.
The old dealership building, dating back to 1927, still stands today as Flat Branch Pub & Brewing, though the address has been changed to 115 S. 5th St, Columbia, MO.
The hand lettered signs each measure 1'-6" (18") tall (green & white sign portion) x 6'-7" (79") wide (green & white sign portion), 2'-9" (33") tall with support legs (which fit inside the truck bed slots), and 2-1/8" deep in total. Note the passenger side sign has been lightly cleaned and the colors really pop out. The drivers side sign remains as found but a cleaning will make the colors come out bright again.
I really plan on keeping the driver side sign and my friend owns the passenger side sign but we have them listed and are willing to sell them at the price listed on EBAY (CLICK HERE).
UPDATE - 03/31/18: DRIVER SIDE OF SIGN HAS BEEN LIGHTLY CLEANED AND LOOKS MUCH BETTER. PLEASE REFERENCE THE LAST PHOTO FOR CURRENT PICTURE OF SIGN.
